Your data, handled plainly.
This page lists the limited data Sketchpad stores, the Google data it uses temporarily, and the permissions each teacher and student workflow requests.
What we store, and what we do not
We store this
- The Sketchpad internal assignment id you generated.
- The Google Classroom
courseIdandcourseWorkIdthe assignment maps to. - The Sketchpad account id of the teacher who created the assignment.
- A timestamp of when the assignment was created.
That is the complete table schema. Nothing else is persisted on Sketchpad infrastructure by this service.
We never store this
- Drawings or any student work. Those live in the uploader's own Drive.
- Rosters, course content, or grades.
- Google access tokens outside the encrypted, short-lived connection cookie.
Every Google permission, and why
Teacher scopes
lists your courses so you can pick which one to create an assignment in.
shows student names next to submissions in the grading dialog.
creates the Sketchpad assignment as coursework, lists its submissions, and patches or returns them with grades.
when you opt to attach the open Sketchpad drawing as assignment instructions, uploads that JPEG to your own Drive so Classroom can reference it as a Drive-file material.
Student scopes
lists your enrolled courses so we can resolve the assignment your launch URL points to.
Reads and changes only your own submission for this assignment so Sketchpad can attach the uploaded JPEG and turn it in.
uploads the JPEG of your drawing to your own Google Drive. Sketchpad reads and writes only the files it creates with this scope; everything else in your Drive is invisible to us.
What Sketchpad does not do
- We do not sell Google data or share it for advertising.
- Sketchpad staff do not review Drive files through this integration.
- We do not use Google data to serve advertising.
- We do not read other students' coursework or submissions on the student side.
- We do not keep a copy of the uploaded JPEG on Sketchpad infrastructure.
Where the drawings actually live
Drawing files used for a student turn-in or teacher material live in the uploader's Google Drive. This service keeps no copy; Google Drive and Classroom control access to and deletion of those files.
Retention, export, and deletion
- Assignment pointers remain until the teacher deletes them, the owning Sketchpad account is deleted, or a verified privacy request removes them.
- Account export includes these pointers. Account deletion removes the local pointers only; Google coursework stays unless the teacher explicitly chooses to delete it.
- For access or deletion help, contact support. We verify account control before disclosing or deleting data.
